The mondrian Garden

A tranquil haven

Enjoy the journey

The geometry of Mondrian’s paintings forms the inspiration for this pocket garden. You are invited into three hidden paths that deliberately slow your pace as you enter. Clouds of soft planting obscure the paths enticing you to push gently past the soft grasses as you navigate.

The soothing sound of moving water focuses the ear away from surrounding gardens creating a tranquil haven. Changes of direction, levels and materials further help you to meander with punctuation points to encourage you to pause and enjoy the journey.

No matter the size of the garden, it is possible to create a journey that leads you to a special place, encouraging you to pause and contemplate.

Light

Despite the size of this pocket garden there are 5 distinct intimate seating areas to be able to enjoy light or shade at different times of the day. Among them, a singular bench placed by the doors to soak in the morning light and two facing benches by the water feature to enjoy the shaded flow of cooling water on a hot day. A larger corner ‘floating’ bench is positioned to catch the afternoon glow as the sun sets.

Focus

The central Trachycarpus fortune ‘Wagnerianus’ forms a vertical focal point to balance the statement water feature. It was also important to create a journey around the garden. The palm acts as a pivot point in which to navigate in a circular rotation adding an illusion of greater depth and a sense of mystery.

“Georgia brought the full force of her design skills to every aspect of the garden, no corner was neglected and the result is a wonderful harmony. Every single aspect was given detailed care and attention. The team she brought to work on the garden were equally dedicated to the project and we have ended up with a very special garden that we can hardly believe is ours.

Georgia's vision and talent transformed a very sad patch of 'garden' into an oasis of colour and style. From start to finish she delivered on every front!”
